Overview

Shawn E. Lott has worked for the American Fork Police Department since 2014 and was listed as a police sergeant in 2025. His career has included patrol, detective, and task-force assignments. He received the Utah Chiefs of Police Association’s Officer of the Year award in the midsize-agency category for his work during 2022.

This page also documents Lott’s involvement in the Joseph Ferreri arrest and the mistaken-identity arrest of Michael Anthony Roy. Both encounters later became the subjects of federal civil-rights lawsuits.

Shawn E. Lott has worked for the American Fork Police Department since 2014, following his graduation from the Salt Lake Community College Police Academy that April. His career has included patrol and detective assignments, and he was listed as a police sergeant in 2025.

In a search-warrant affidavit, Lott described his assignment as a detective with the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force, working on the SET team. His task-force work included narcotics investigations. In 2023, he received the Utah Chiefs of Police Association’s Officer of the Year award in the midsize-agency category for his work during 2022.

Alongside his police employment, Lott worked as a noncredit public-safety instructor at Utah Valley University from 2022 through 2025, with additional specialist entries in 2023 and 2024. He also serves on the board of the Utah Gang Investigators Association.
