POLICE ENCOUNTER RECORDS

Eric Roundy

Overview

  • In early 2025, American Fork police contacted Eric Roundy’s family after a neighbor accused his wife of harassment during an ongoing mail-delivery dispute.

  • The evidence described in the reporting was limited: the neighbor who called police had not witnessed the conversation and relayed her husband’s account. Officer Bronson T. Kitchen committed to giving a harassment warning before hearing the Roundy family’s side.

  • Body-camera and Ring footage show officers repeatedly pounding on the door and calling for the family to come outside. The family declined to open the door and told the officers to leave, after which they called the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

  • About 14 minutes passed between officers arriving at the door at 10:16 p.m. and speaking with the responding sheriff’s deputy at 10:30 p.m.

  • Police mailed disorderly conduct and obstruction citations. According to the American Fork Citizen’s reporting, investigators and the prosecutor later expressed concerns about pursuing the charges.

  • The coverage also raises allegations that city officials contacted Roundy’s employer and sent it records about his communications with the city after he requested public records concerning the encounter.

  • The collected emails and GRAMA appeal correspondence document his efforts to obtain records and officials’ internal discussions about his requests.
